Placements vary from two weeks to six months, depending on the program and your availability. We also offer short cultural immersion experiences and long-term partnership opportunities.
Definitely. Many of our volunteers explore nearby national parks, beaches, and cultural sites after or between projects. It’s the perfect way to experience the full beauty of East Africa — responsibly.
Not always! We value passion, open-mindedness, and the willingness to learn. Some programs (like education or environmental projects) may require specific skills, but most simply need your commitment and compassion.
We believe in partnership, not charity. Our programs are designed and led by local communities — we simply walk alongside them. Ubuntu Flame focuses on long-term empowerment, sustainability, and ethical engagement, not short-term aid or “voluntourism.”

I came to Tanzania thinking I’d make an impact, but the truth is, the people I met made a far greater impact on me. Ubuntu Flame gave me a new understanding of service, one that’s guided by listening and learning first. The warmth, laughter, and sense of togetherness are things I’ll never forget.
Ubuntu Flame gave me a space to share my skills and still feel part of something bigger. Working alongside volunteers from around the world reminded me that our struggles and hopes are connected. It’s more than volunteering, it’s belonging, it’s family, and it’s purpose.
Working with the women’s groups in Arusha was eye-opening. I watched them lead projects, support one another, and build small businesses with so much determination. Ubuntu Flame showed me what real empowerment looks like quiet strength, shared laughter, and a deep sense of unity. I carry that spirit with me every day.
Volunteering through Ubuntu Flame changed how I see community work. I joined because I wanted to give back, but I ended up gaining so much more. The team welcomed me like family, and every project was rooted in genuine connection and respect. I left with friendships that still inspire me today.
